Are you wondering how to start blogging in Nigeria? If so, welcome to Internet of Business. I have been studying digital entrepreneurship since 2011. My overall goal with this website is to help other people get beyond just working for linear income. Life is already very short. So, we have to think outside the box now. How many hard working, highly educated people do you know who are having a hard time financially? I know of many.
Why is that? Well, I believe a large part of it is a failed philosophy. You cannot get by on one source of income (paycheck) when you have 10 to 20 bills to pay. In addition, the pressure is even higher for people who have children to feed. I hope that this post on how to start blogging in Nigeria will be of help to you.
How do bloggers get paid in Nigeria?
Bloggers get paid in Nigeria similarly as they do here in America. Remember, there are many ways to earn income online with a blog. One of the most common is having Google Adsense running on your blog. An example of this can be seen on nutritiongeeks.com. It is a site that I created where I share tips of how to start a home based business with a very well known company.
Of course, this site is devoted to helping bloggers and vloggers build their online business. That being said, starting a home based business is one of the wisest financial decisions one can make. I joined Herbalife a little over 2 years ago and thoroughly enjoying sharing fitness and nutrition with others. You can learn more about how to join here if you are interested.
An additional way you can start getting pad with a blog is affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing is when you share a product someone else created and you earn a commission each time someone buys it. There are major companies in Nigeria and here in the united States of America that you can sign up with. It is also free to become an affiliate. Once you join the company or content creator will send you a link. Your job is to write blog posts or vlogs about that topic and share your link with others.
Of course, it is no additional cost to someone who may buy using your link. So, it is completely legal to be an affiliate. For example, I see my Sub 3 Hour Marathon Pro course for $167. My affiliates get 40 percent of that each time they sell one of my course. So, $66.80 USD each time someone buys one of my courses using their link. Are you interested in track and field or running? If so, sign up to be a RunDreamAchieve affiliate and start earning with your blog.
Start A SiteGround Blog
Siteground is the registrar that I use for all of my websites. You can start your own Siteground blog for only $17.99 USD. Remember, this is an annual charge. So, it’s $17.99 USD or the equivalent in your countries currency to get started. The only other charge that comes with starting a blog is you have to have your website hosted somewhere. I use Siteground as well which is only $3.99 USD per month or about $35.88 USD each year.
The good news is that operating costs for your blog are very reasonable. Also, once you start making more profits these small expenditures will hardly be recognized anymore. No, blogging is not a get rich quick scheme. Yes, you will need to be devoted and focused on content creation. That being said, it can be very rewarding once you get the hang of it. I will be sharing with you some strategies that will help speed up your learning curve so you can succeed.
How do Nigerian bloggers make money for beginners?
Nigerians, just like Americans, want to live a life of freedom. In addition, they may love what they do for a living but are seeking more out of life too. They, too, realize there is plenty of money to be made but limited time. So, what are the best ways to live free? Well, those asking how to start blogging in Nigeria are asking the right question.
People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care– Zig Ziglar, entrepreneur
Remember, blogging is more than just writing blog posts. You need to help find a need or solve a problem that other people have. How can you help them? I know you want to be successful but in order to do that you have to have your focus on others first. Worry about what you want second. An additional way to start earning additional income is to start a course.
Podia is the platform that I use to build courses to sell to others. First, my focus is on helping others to get what they want. Again, to start earning income online you need to solve a problem within the marketplace. I started making courses for runners who were trying to run faster over the mile to the marathon distance.
Podia helps me create courses to help them. Also, the podia platform also offers beginners the ability to create membership sites. Yes, membership sites take work. That being said, as you build your relationship with your blog visitors they may start to pay you.
In addition, as more people sign up to be part of your membership site what else occurs? Your monthly income increases. More importantly, it is residual income you start to earn. Income that continues to come in for having worked hard one time. Podia also handles all of the credit card transactions for you. I also love the fact that they don’t take any of the cut of your earnings. So, you pay $33 USD per month and can make as many courses or digital products as you wish.
Is blogging lucrative in Nigeria?
Yes, blogging can become very lucrative. Here is the bad news. It takes work. I have been blogging for about 11 years now. Of course, I love creating content that helps other people. That being said, you definitely have to be passionate about what you are writing about. Also, you need to make sure you are using tools that will help you succeed.
I highly recommend looking into KWFinder is you are going to start blogging. I write that because you don’t want to write about anything that comes to mind. So, you have to be strategic when it comes to blogging so it can eventually become lucrative. For example, you need to make sure you are finding keywords that people are already typing into the search engines. Also, does the keyword have low competition and high search volume.
New bloggers that are not as established have to really focus more on this. The reason being is new blogs take time to start getting noticed in Google. Blogs that have been around for a while do tend to rank for keywords easier. The reason for this is they have more backlinks (positive votes from other websites) pointing to them. KWFinder will ensure you find the right keywords to write your blog posts about.
How much do I need to start a blog in Nigeria?
The overall costs to maintain your blog each year comes out to under $100 USD with Siteground. So, it is very manageable. Remember, as you build content and create new products your income will go up. The overall goal here is to start earning residual income. Income that is not dependent on you having to be somewhere to warm a seat for 8 to 12+ hours a day.
Of course, there are many people in Nigeria who love what they do for a living. That being said, what happens the moment they stop showing up for work? Does their employer continue to pay them regardless? No. Linear income is income that is tied to your time. So, those asking how to start blogging in Nigeria are asking the right question. Money does grow on trees but you have to learn how to grow your money trees first. You cannot lose enthusiasm if you truly want to be a full-time blogger in Nigeria.
What should I blog about in Nigeria?
Remember, you are seeking to live unlike the way most do. Our jobs as bloggers is to help others, in some way. I hold an MBA and working on my Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree graduating next year. So, entrepreneurship and especially digital entrepreneurship is of high interest to me. I know that with enough work you can get beyond having to trade time for money. Money will start working hard for you.
You should blog about what you are passionate about and have expertise in. Are you good at math? Why not create a course that can help other people get better at it? Are you a good cook?
Why not start a blog revolved around helpful recipes to help people lose or gain weight? Do you have a love for running or fitness? Why not start a running related website and help answer other peoples questions about running faster? Again, blogging takes time. So, you want to make sure you blog about topics that you have a great deal of expertise in.
How can I start a blog in Nigeria 2022?
Below are some of the steps I would recommend for those seeking how to start blogging in NIgeria.
- Decide the name of your blog. You don’t need to have specific keyword but sometimes it helps to have the keyword you want to rank for in the URL (i.e. www.mycoolblog.com).
- Purchase your domain name and get your web hosting. My recommendation is Siteground. You can buy a domain for only $17.99 USD and hosting is only $3.99 USD per month. Again, the price will be the equivalent to this in Nigerian currency.
- Pick the right blogging platform. The top two I recommend and have used for over 10 years is WordPress and Weebly. They are both very easy to use and Siteground customer support can even assist you with uploading your website theme. Themes are basically the skeleton of your site. Internet of Business is run on WordPress. There are many free as well as premium, paid themes you can invest in. I would recommend Studiopress for a paid theme. Again, there are also free themes too you can use.
- Launch your new blog. Again, Siteground can help you do this if you need assistance.
- Start creating content. Remember, focus on finding the right keywords to write about before you start writing content.
